The Shopping Part of Disney World Is Reopening on May 20

Just a few days after the first Disney park reopened in Shanghai following months of closure due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Disney World has announced it will also soon reopen part of its Orlando park. On May 20, Disney Springs will open its CityWalk area to visitors—but it will look a little different than it did before.

“Disney Springs will begin to reopen in a way that incorporates enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members,” Disney explained in a press release.

Along with being required to wear a face mask and observe social distancing while in the park, Disney notes that visitors must also pass a temperature check before entering to ensure they’re healthy. “Our focus remains on the health and safety of the entire Disney community—including the well-being of the Cast Members who are caring for and securing our parks and Resorts,” Disney says.

So what exactly will be reopening? While the theme parks and Disney Resort hotels will remain closed, a “limited number” of shopping and dining establishments at Universal CityWalk will open their doors at the end of the month. However, Disney cautions that there will be strict capacity limits along with reduced parking and operating hours (from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.).

For anyone interested in returning to the park once it opens, Disney will be posting updates as May 20 gets closer on DisneySprings.com. As of now, Disney says that the rest of the Universal Studios park will stay closed through May 31.
