Rupert Grint, best known for portraying Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series, is now a dad. Grint’s longtime partner Georgia Groome, an actress herself, gave birth to the couple’s first child this week, a daughter whose name has yet to be revealed.
As far as we can tell, Grint is the first actor who portrayed one of the Weasley kids in the series to have a kid of his own. James and Oliver Phelps, the twins who played Fred and George; Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny; Domhnall Gleeson, who played Bill; and Chris Rankin, who (briefly) played Percy have yet to reproduce.
This makes them quite unlike their fictional parents, who likely started early in order to have such a large brood.
Grint’s co-stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, who played Hermione and Harry in the films, are also childless. The internet has responded to the news about the way you’d expect.
Grint, who currently stars in the Apple TV+ series Servant, talked to The Guardian about becoming a dad all the way back in 2018.
“I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters, and see what happens. I’d like to settle down and have kids soon,” he told the paper.
Apparently, he wasn’t lying—after all, Ron isn’t a Slytherin.
