Deep Data Reveals Which ‘Star Wars’ Character Is the Biggest Killer

A new interactive platform turns the Star Wars saga into data sets that reveal some interesting insights. You might think you know who the biggest badass in Star Wars is, but do the numbers back up that assumption?

Star Wars in Numbers tracks 23 different categories across all ten canonical films, from A New Hope to Solo. And even if you’ve seen all of them a million times, there are still plenty of surprises.

For instance, the deadliest character is Vader who, including his kills as Anakin, took out 3 Dark Side followers and 8 Jedi. There’s a tie for second place between Palpatine and, surprisingly, Chewbacca. Like the evil Emperor, the lovable Wookiee is responsible for (supposedly) only four deaths throughout the series.

Now, This deadliest character business seems to be focused on direct murders, because if we’re talking about indirect murders, then Grand Moff Tarkin, Luke Skywalker and General Hux seem like the dudes who killed the most people with just one action. Also, Chewie certainly killed more people off-screen, because that reputation for ripping people’s arms off didn’t come out of nowhere.

Speaking of Wookies, there are 1,606 Wookie sounds in all of the films combined, with Solo: A Star Wars Story having the most, with 327.

The film with the most aliens? The Phantom Menace. The most droids? Revenge of the Sith, which also has the most limbs lost with 8.

Vader actually loses 5 limbs across all the films all by himself, which sounds impossible until you remember that he lost his right arm twice: once as Anakin in a fight with Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones and once as Vader in a fight with Luke in Return of the Jedi. The only other character quite as unlucky is C-3PO who presumably doesn’t mind amputation as much as a human.

In addition to all of this juicy data, the portal includes plenty of Star Wars trivia. For instance, almost every film has a variant of the line “I have a bad feeling about this.” The Last Jedi broke the trend, and the screenwriters of Solo cleverly have Han say “I’ve got a really good feeling about this.”
