Sure, WandaVision wraps-up in just a few short weeks, but Marvel junkies won’t have to wait long to get their next superheroic fix. On March 19, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier hits Disney+, and seemingly will pick-up right where Avengers: Endgame left off. But, with a slew of newly released photos, some Marvel faithful think there’s a giant spoiler hiding in plain sight. Take a look at that photo above. Yeah, it’s the Falcon/Captain America Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) holding the shield formerly wielded by Steve Rogers. No big deal, right? Well…

Okay, so possible spoilers coming at you faster than Cap grabbed Thor’s hammer in Endgame. Seriously, this might be big, so look away if you don’t want to know what might have happened in between Endgame and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Okay, so Marvel fans on Reddit have taken a look at these new officially released photos from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and have all asked the same question: Why is Sam Wilson wearing a formal suit and holding the Captain America shield in this photo? The easy answer might be that the events of Falcon and Winter Soldier happen right after Tony Stark’s funeral in Endgame, right? I mean, that’s when Sam gets the shield from Steve, so it all checks out, right?

There’s just one problem. By the time Sam gets the shield from Steve, he’s not wearing a formal suit anymore. Check it out.

That’s right, Sam switched into his casual clothes after the funeral and then got the shield from Steve. So, in this new photo, why is Sam wearing a formal suit and holding the famous shield. Reddit folks seem to think there’s a very tragic answer: Old Steve has died before the events of The Falcon and the Winter Solider.

Could this be true? Would that prevent Captain America from coming back to the MCU? Well, maybe, maybe not. There’s plenty of time travel and alternate universes in the Marvel movies, with plenty of crossovers coming very soon in the next Doctor Strange movie, to say nothing of the low-key X-Men crossover on WandaVision.

Still, if Sam really is at a funeral at the opening of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, then the question is, who died? Because Steve Rogers was “old” in Endgame, we should prepare ourselves for it to be Steve. Yep, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is coming, so get ready to cry.

The Falcon and the Winter Solider hits Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
