The buzz is really kicking in now for Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings, which Disney and Marvel Studios hope will be the next MCU blockbuster. Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in the September 3 release, and to keep the momentum going for the film, Disney and Marvel have just released a truly exciting and informative two-minute featurette titled, “Next Level Action.”
“Next Level Action” includes footage – of both the finished and behind-the-scenes variety — from a wild sequence in which a bus careens down some famous streets in San Francisco. The featurette also reveals snippets of other scenes and includes comments from actors Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Fala Chen, as well as director Destin Daniel Cretton, fight coordinator Andy Cheng, and producer Kevin Feige, about the film’s stunts, martial arts, “magical” story, and more. And here’s the official synopsis: “Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, with Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan, and Tony Leung as Xu Wenwu, Shang-Chi’s father; as well as Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Yuen Wah, Ronny Chieng, Zach Cherry, and Dallas Liu.” Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings open nationwide – and only in physical theaters; no hybrid theatrical/PVOD release — on Friday, September 3. Will it be enough to kick-start Marvel back into the blockbuster game? If this video is any proof, the answer is a big yes.
